Season 1 ep 5: Resilient Roots, Radiant Futures: Redefining Success Beyond Starting Over
===
[00:00:00] Hello, beautiful people. Welcome back to Baseline and Boundaries, a Mindset Revolution. I'm Dr. Tamika Scott, your executive mindset coach, your leadership friend and fellow recovery perfection performance. Today's episode is for folks who feel like life threw them off track. Maybe you lost a job, left a toxic environment, launched something new, or decided to walk away from what wasn't serving you.
And now everyone's telling you, well, it's time to start over, but what if I told you, you are not really starting all over. Let's talk about it.
So let's talk about it. Let's talk about the myth of starting over, and let me tell you something that I've often remind myself as well as a lot of my clients. [00:01:00] You're not new here. You didn't lose anything, and you're not starting from zero. There's this narrative that when we pivot. Whether by choice or by force, we somehow have erased all that we've built, all that we've learned, and we're starting from scratch.
That couldn't be further from the truth. One of my clients, let's call her, uh, Maya. See, Maya was laid off unexpectedly. Her company restructured, and she went from being in rooms where decisions were made to being. And her own house, chilling and disbelief, refreshing LinkedIn and questioning her worth. She told me she felt like she was back at square one [00:02:00] and I had her paws and I said, you know Maya, you've built the whole damn tower.
And just because one brick got knocked loose doesn't mean your foundation has disappeared. So we unpacked her belief about what it meant to start over, and I asked her some questions and, one that I wanna share with you to potentially reconsider . What skills, wisdom, and lessons have come with you to this next chapter?
Let that question sit with you for a moment. What skills, wisdom, lessons are coming with you to your next chapter?
Because here's the truth, that doesn't get enough airtime. Your resilience doesn't begin. With this moment, every time you show up [00:03:00] in hard spaces, every time you advocate for yourself or your team, every mistake you've made and learned from, that's your root system. That's your baseline. You've been growing strong beneath the surface, scratching and stretching and healing.
And deepening who you are and when that new opportunity shows up, whether it's a new job, whether you decide to start your own business, whether it's a new role or even a new identity, , . You're stepping into it with a root rootedness.
Let me try this again. You're stepping into it with roots that have already been built in resilience. You are not rebuilding, you're just expanding.
So I'm gonna offer you some language of success, and here's what I want you to consider today. Our language shapes our [00:04:00] mindset. When you say, I am starting over, it can unintentionally carry shame, some level of fear or pressure. But when you say, I'm building forward, or I'm continuing my evolution, or I'm onto the next chapter, now you're rooted in the truth.
An agency in the momentum. Let me give you a reframing tool that I've used for myself and of course with my clients. So say instead, I'm building on what I know. I'm applying everything I've learned. I'm moving forward with clarity and intention. , You don't owe anyone a reset. You didn't ask for,
you're not broken, you're not a loser or a failure. You are becoming.
So let's define success anew. So for you, what does success look [00:05:00] like when you stop believing that you're starting over? 'cause that's a lie. For my client, Maya, I, it looked like starting her own business with confidence that her corporate experience was her credibility. It looks like her repurposing old slide decks into offers.
It looked like pitching herself not as a beginner, but as a bold, seasoned, values driven, amazing expert out here in these streets. , Success is not about starting clean. It's about showing up. Clear, clear about who you are. What you've survived , and what you now refuse to shrink for.
So if I have anything to give you in today's episode, I wanna leave you with some affirmations to take away. Here are the three takeaways that I wanna offer [00:06:00] you. You're not starting over, you're building forward.
Your roots are stronger than you assume, and success is yours to redefine as often as you need to. I redefine success daily. Now, if this episode resonated with you, take a screenshot, share it on social media. Tag me, share it with a friend and let me know what resilient roots are you building from right now.
Until next time, protect your peace. Water them roots, and remember, it's important that we see it differently so that we can do it differently.
